The Price of Hope (Documentary in development)
Set in the semi-arid remote settlement of Kimana, Kenya, The Price of Hope follows anti-FGM and anti-child marriage crusader, Dorcus Parit, founder of Hope Beyond Transitional Center, in her mission to save local girls from horrifying fates. Dorcus' point of view and the insights of rescued girls in her care candidly drive the story. All voices are organically Kenyan and central to the story, with no experts from the outside or outsider commentary. The director, Caroline Josey Karoki, is a Kenyan-born filmmaker who wants to give a voice and a platform to at-risk girls from a little-known Kenyan community in the most intimate and respectful manner. Producing a film about overlooked subject matters such as FGM and early childhood marriages means the girls will have more support and attention locally, nationally and globally. It raises awareness that such practices still exist, encourages bold conversations and ultimately helps put an end to the harmful practices. Girls can be saved from permanent pain and suffering. They can get an opportunity to have a childhood and get an education. We are in the development stage of this project, and it cannot go forward without your help. Your partnership is crucial in our efforts to share this story and help more girls reach for the stars. Monetary donations of any amount will go toward travel and production-related costs for the filmmakers. Thank you in advance for your support. Please visit tuskartscenter.org to learn more and donate

The Williams Family: Living with DBA (Diamond Blackfan Anemia)
Mr. Williams and his two children, Michael (4) and Calvin (5), have a rare blood disorder called Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA). There is no cure except for the possibility of a bone marrow transplant with a matched donor. In the meantime, all three are blood transfusion dependent and must each get transfusions every 3-4 weeks. All three have mediports placed in their chest to make this process easier. Additionally, both boys were diagnosed with Autism (unrelated to the DBA). The oldest child has also recently been diagnosed with complex partial seizures most likely related to the autism. All three of them also have hemochromatosis (iron overload) due to the excessive transfusions and must take medications to reduce the iron in their body or risk organ failure. Due to their conditions they must go to several doctor/therapy visits each week. Mrs. Williams, the only member of the family without DBA, works to support her family as the breadwinner.
